Walks among the trees, a museum for rainy days and a day at VDNH. Flexible ideas for experiencing Moscow as the seasons change.

Two days without crossing the city repeatedly

Our editorial suggestion: dedicate one day to Gorky Park and its surroundings, choosing a short outdoor walk. Keep the Tretyakov Gallery as an alternative for a rainy day, with a transfer planned separately. For day two, choose VDNH and keep your walk, visit and lunch break in that area.

Adapt these ideas to your dates and pace. Check the weather, route and opening times before setting out; avoid trying to fit every stop into one day. Leaf colour changes through the season and cannot be guaranteed for a particular date.

Gorky Park and Neskuchny Garden

Gorky Park also includes Neskuchny Garden and Muzeon. Choose one area for an autumn walk, then decide whether to continue. The park’s official website introduces its different areas and current activities.

With children or a pushchair, start with a short route and plan an indoor break. Take care around wet leaves, steps and slopes, and check the route against your needs on arrival. The cover shows Gorky Park in autumn: it is an archive photograph, not a report of today’s weather.

For rainy days: the Tretyakov Gallery

The historic Tretyakov Gallery building is at 10 Lavrushinsky Lane. Plan a dedicated indoor visit and check exactly which building and exhibition your ticket covers.

Checked on 19 October 2026: the official website lists Monday closure and opening from 10am to 9pm on other days, with last admission at 8pm. Recheck notices for your chosen date. For family activities, confirm age requirements, language and booking arrangements; not every programme allows drop-in access.

VDNH: a day of avenues and pavilions

VDNH has an autumn 2026 page and an official seasonal route. Use them to choose a small number of stops and combine a walk with an indoor visit, checking each pavilion’s opening arrangements.

Prepare a shorter version too: one visit, one walk and a break. With children, check activity age ranges. For reduced mobility, verify entrances and distances between stops before selecting your route.

Tastes of Autumn: 14–31 October 2026

VDNH lists “Vkusy oseni” (Tastes of Autumn) from 14 to 31 October 2026, with seasonal menus at participating restaurants on the grounds. Check the official page for venues, dishes, prices and current terms.

This is a dated programme: consider it only if it overlaps your visit. After 31 October, check directly with VDNH for the next programme. City&Beyond does not handle bookings or guarantee tables or menu availability.

Opening times, access, tickets, family rules, transport and events can change. Recheck official pages 24–48 hours before your visit and again on the day.
